A role model of "brain gain" - Dr . Sanjiva Weerawarana @ WSO2

11 August, 2011

We have been talking of brain drain for so loud and hard. But very little has been talked on how to reverse the trend. There are two solutions, preventive measures and corrective measures.

“Brain gain” is interesting by product of “brain drain”. Dr . Sanjiva Weerawarana, the CEO of WSO2 has put up a nice post on his blog titled “10 years since returning to Sri Lanka”.

It is worth reading for anyone thinking of migrating overseas. You may migrate for your studies or career aspirations, but if you can be a brain gain agent for the mother country one day, you can be self satisfied and proud person just like Dr . Sanjiva Weerawarana.

Dr. Sanjeewa who worked for IBM for over 8 years, later returned to Sri Lanka and formed his own High Tech Company. Now, WSO2 is competing with USA based IBM in equal basis.

There are plenty of business oriented people in overseas laboring for multinational companies or facilitating mere body hiring by setting up BPOs. But the future prosperity of Sri Lanka depends on vision of great professionals like Dr. Sanjeewa who has a vision for building own brands with Sri Lankan flavour.

I would like everyone to read his post in full and get inspired.

And there is nice interview about two years back by famous IT resource web site infoq.com. It is worth watching at least the first part of the clip . Here is the link for the full interview.
